Blood and guts

Turkka Aaltonen

Week 4.
We are spending the week with Turkka Aaltonen, a Finnish survival/wilderness expert. We'll be spending a few weeks with him learning different things during the course. This week is cooking and got off to an interesting start, by butchering a sheep.

Aras and Andy raring to go

The sheep was freshly killed this morning so the body was still nice and warm. I took quite a few pics of almost each step of the butchering, they might get a bit graphic but they're not too bad, just be warned.

Not much to it really.  Start with cutting the skin around the legs and work your way down carefully.

Everyone got their hands dirty.

We're going to be cooking the meat on Wednesday. I don't know how yet? but it won't be in an oven. Not a conventional one anyway.

Vegetarian Emily having a mad time

It gets a little trickier around the neck and head but we're getting there.

Mira was loving breaking the legs, and Robin cant wait to make us haggis with that stomach.

Andy, another vegetarian having too much fun. They saved me the hind legs at the end. I kept the shin bone and I'm going to try and make something out of it. I don't know what yet? watch this space.

Not much going to waste. Popped the eyes out then Seishi went to work on the tongue. After that they cracked the skull open and took the brains as well, no pic's unfortunately.

We're gonna eat well on Wednesday!

Don't know what else to say? This is what we did today.
Tomorrow is fish day. So if I have time I'll post what we get up to in the evening.
